FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON HAIR TRANSPLANTATION

What is Hair Transplantation?

Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure in which hair from the back and sides of the scalp is moved to the bald areas.

When Can a Hair Transplant Be Done?

A Hair Transplant can be done in the early stages of hair loss when the hair is just beginning to thin, as well as in the later stages when baldness is more apparent.

In What Type of Baldness Has This Treatment Been Helpful?
It is most commonly used to treat male pattern baldness.  Hair Transplantation has, however, been

Hair Transplantation Treatment Delhi, Hair Transplantation Clinic Delhi
performed with excellent results in the treatment of genetic hair loss in women, as well as in scars resulting from face lifts and other facial surgery, burns, accidents, or as a result of various hair loss diseases.  This surgery is also done to help replace thinning eyebrows and eyelashes.

How Long Will the Transplanted Hair Last?
Transplanted hair should grow normally in the recipient area as long as it would in the donor site from which it was taken.

Do All Transplanted Hair Grafts Grow?

In almost all cases, the vast majority of transplanted grafts should yield growing hair.  Pre and postoperative instructions are provided to minimize the risk of graft injury and subsequent compromised growth.  It is important to realize that the number of hairs growing from each graft will vary, depending on the density of the hair at the donor site and on the size of the graft selected.

How is this Surgical Hair Restoration Procedure Performed?

Hair Transplantation is a long office procedure, which requires only local anesthetic.  There is initially some discomfort associated with the administration of the anesthesia, but this is of very short duration. We have developed techniques to reduce this discomfort, and most patients tolerate this brief period very well.

The donor area (the back or sides of the scalp) as well as the recipient area (the bald or thinning area) are made numb with the local anesthetic.  Up until several years ago, round grafts (plugs) were always used throughout the hair transplant process.  The desired number of round grafts were removed from the donor area and then transferred to the bald area.  Today these larger grafts have been mostly replaced by smaller grafts (follicular units, micro, mini or slit grafts), since these grafts produce a much more natural transition from thinning or baldness to increased hair growth.  In most cases where very small grafts are used, this surgery can be accomplished almost undetectably.  Specific recommendations are discussed at a personal consultation.

When smaller grafts are to be transplanted, the following technique is used:

The hair to be transplanted is trimmed close to the scalp, and the desired amount of donor skin and hair are then removed.  This donor site is then sutured closed, resulting in a fine scar which is only detectable on close inspection.  The donor hair-bearing skin is then divided into very small pieces which generally contain 1-3 hairs.  These grafts are then rapidly inserted into small openings made in the recipient area.

When there is a Large Area of Baldness, is it Possible to cover the Entire Bald Area?
This depends on the size of the bald area as well as on the donor area.  When there is extensive baldness, a procedure called a scalp reduction may be useful in order to decrease the size of the bald area.  Subsequently, grafting is done as described above.

How Many Sessions are required in a Hair Transplant?

The number of sessions varies, and will depend on the:

  • Area of scalp treated
  • Number and size of grafts used
  • Density of hair desired by the patient
  • Individual characteristics such as coarseness or fineness of hair
  • Current stage of hair loss and future rate of hair loss
  • Timeframe in which patient wishes to replace lost hair
Is There a Minimum or Maximum Time Period that is Allowed Between Individual Hair Replacement Surgery Sessions?
Minimum time intervals will depend upon individual circumstances.  However, there is no maximum interval between sessions.  Certainly, the shorter the intervals between sessions the more rapidly the hair transplant is completed.

How long does it take for Transplanted Hair to Grow?
The transplanted hair generally sheds within the first 2-3 weeks after the procedure and new hair begins to grow approximately 2-4 months later.  The hair then grows at the normal rate of 1/2 inch each month.  The transition from thinning or baldness to greater fullness of hair is very gradual.
Follicular Hair Transplantation The best technique for Hair Replacement in bald areas

What is a Scalp Reduction?
A scalp reduction is a procedure, which is performed under local anesthetic in which a large bald area of skin is removed.  This leaves a scar on the scalp which must later be camouflaged by grafting directly into the scar.

What is Scalp Flap Surgery?
Scalp flap surgery is a procedure in which an entire segment of hair-bearing scalp is transferred into a bald area.  This is a relatively uncommon surgery and few surgeons perform it. The risks include improper hair direction at the hairline, as well as the more serious risk of partial or complete loss of survival of the flap and the hair within it.

Why Have I Seen Hair Transplants That Have a Pluggy Look?
In the past, hair transplant surgery often resulted in a very artificial look sometimes referred to as a pluggy, doll's head or corn row look.  This was usually seen in the intermediate stages between hair transplant sessions, or if a person decided not to complete the
Hair Transplantation Treatment Delhi, Hair Transplantation Clinic Delhi
required number of surgeries. With the advent of the tiny grafts being used today, the result can be very natural even after a single surgery.

Are Lasers Used in Hair Transplantation?

Laser hair transplantation has been used with some success.  To date, results with lasers have been shown to be inferior to those obtained with traditional non-laser hair transplant surgery. For this reason, they are not in common use.

How Long After a Hair Transplant Would I Be Able to Go Back to Work?

Depending on the type of procedure you have done and the type of work you do, it is often possible to go back to work in one or two days.

What are the Risks of Hair Transplant Surgery?
Hair transplantation is an extremely safe out-patient procedure that is generally without significant risks or complications.  However, as is the case in any surgery, there are risks, and these are always presented and discussed in detail at your personal consultation with the doctor.

What Type of Preparation is required prior to Hair Restoration Surgery?
All patients must have normal results to standard pre-operative blood tests prior to confirming a surgery date and arranging travel plans.  Detailed pre-operative and post-operative instructions are forwarded to each patient prior to the surgery date.  Patients also complete Consent for Surgery form prior to the surgery.

Definition of FUE

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is the most scientific & advanced technique of hair restoration. In this procedure:

  • Hair follicles are extracted individually from the back side of the head, beard or other body parts with the help of special micropunches (size varying from 0.7mm - 1.3mm).
  • Implanted in the bald area of scalp, beard, moustache, eyebrows or chest.
  • These transplanted hair grow, you can get a hair cut and style them in whatever way you want.
Consultation for Hair Loss

Advantages of FUE

  • Stitchless
  • No linear visible scar
  • No infection or reaction to sutures
  • The patient can wear short hair
  • Virtually painless

Follicular Unit Extraction Technique (FUE)

Donor Area

The hair in the scalp are arranged in the form of groups called grafts. Each graft consists of 1-5 hair. These grafts are removed from the permanent zone of back and sides of the head. The hair in these grafts do not have a receptor in the area of the hair root and do not respond to the male hormone, testosterone. Also other sources of hair include: beard, chest, abdomen, legs.

Recipient Area

These hair are then implanted in the recipient area.

FUE Hair Transplant

WHAT IS AN FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT?

Hair transplantation originated in Japan in the early 1900s and has evolved greatly over the past century. In the 1980s, as part of this evolution, came the advent of follicular unit extraction (FUE). FUE, wherein the practitioner extracts follicular units (natural groupings of 1 to 4 hairs) one at a time, is now the ideal method of extraction for hair transplantation.

FUE hair transplant is a no-stitch procedure that involves implanting the grafted follicular units into the balding recipient area. While FUE hair transplantation requires the practitioner to possess a higher skill set in order to perform the procedure successfully, this technique continually yields the most successful outcomes in hair density, natural-looking hairlines, and minimized scarring. FUE hair transplantation is generally pursued for the treatment of androgenic alopecia, also known as pattern baldness. This genetic hair loss condition results in balding of the crown, front, hairline, and temple points. But with the innovations of the FUE hair transplant, it is nearly impossible to tell a natural head of hair from one that has undergone hair transplantation.

PREPARING FOR AN FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT

Once you’ve had a one on one consultation with your physician and decided to proceed, you will be given the necessary instructions to prepare yourself for your day of surgery. Some of these instructions may be tailored to your particular needs. Put the instructions into place whenever specified and follow them carefully. On the morning of your surgery, you should have a bountiful breakfast and arrive with a thoroughly shampooed scalp. Upon arrival at the clinic, “before” photographs will be taken of you. The donor area, being the back of the head in most cases, will then be shaved and prepared for surgery.

Hairline design and blueprint for implantation.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURE?

First, the patient is made to lie face down on the operating table. Local anesthesia will be administered to the donor area, as well as intramuscular hypnotics for the patient to ingest orally, for the purpose of relaxation.

Your surgeon will then begin to extract carefully selected follicular units from the donor area. The surgeon will use a micropunching tool, needle devices, and magnification for the extraction process. (Vacuum-based mass production machines may compromise your results, and robots lack the necessary human touch that contributes to an optimal procedure. These mass production line cookie cutter FUE machines are at their primitive stages of development with much room for improvement. They are no substitute for an experienced FUE surgeon with a verifiable portfolio of patient results.) Each follicle extracted may consist of anywhere from one to four, or even five hairs. The extracted grafts are then preserved in a holding solution. This part of the surgery is the most laborious and time-consuming, since unlicensed technicians are legally forbidden to perform follicular extraction. Your FUE surgeon or an experienced associate (one who is licensed to perform surgery by the state) should perform this entire process himself, to ensure the integrity of each extracted graft.

Body and facial hair are harvested in a similar but more nuanced manner by experienced practitioners, skilled in advanced forms of FUE hair transplant.

After all extractions have been done, the patient can turn over to sit face up. Many would use this time to listen to music, or watch a movie or television. Local anesthesia will be administered to the bald recipient area at this time. Using customized blades, microscopic slits are made in this area for implantation of the extracted follicles. Implantation of the follicles is the step requiring the highest level of skill, as the resulting design or “look” is determined by the slit preparation. Hairline creation, which should have been discussed in detail during your consultation, happens here. The hairline is the most creative work in the FUE hair transplant process. The utmost care is given to produce a natural looking hairline. In order to achieve this, the follicles containing a single hair are implanted at the front of the hairline to build a gradual wall of hair, which is filled in by units containing two to three hairs to provide the area with density.

AFTER THE FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURE

After you receive detailed instructions from the medical assistant—which include everything from showering to exercising—you will be given a prescription for mild painkillers, antibiotics, and topical medication.

Signs of wounding in the donor area should deplete by day seven, as well. Typically, the donor area will continue to heal to the point where scarring is highly unnoticeable.

Scabs in the recipient area will usually fall off within seven to 14 days. This area will go through a phase of shedding until the eighth week. Typically, your FUE hair transplant will boast new hair growth by three and a half to four months, usually maxing out at 12 months. However, for up to 18 months, the new hair will continue to thicken and mature, blending in more with the surrounding hair.

WHY CHOOSE FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT OVER DIFFERENT HAIR RESTORATION OPTIONS?

There are different options for treating hair loss, not all surgical:

  1. Minoxidil, commonly known as Rogaine, and finasteride, commonly known as Propecia.
  2. Surgery is the most popular means of permanent hair restoration with three main techniques at the forefront:
  • scalp reduction
  • temporoparieto-occipital (TPO) flaps and other variations of flaps
  • Punch graft, minigrafts, and micrografts
  • Hair transplantation, including follicular unit strip surgery and FUE hair transplant

Rogaine and Propecia are the two FDA approved, prescription-based hair restoration drugs on the market. These drugs must be used continuously in order to stop hair loss, unlike FUE hair transplantation, which is a permanent procedure.

Scalp reduction and temporoparieto-occipital flaps, or TPO flaps, have become obsolete due to consistently botched results, a high probability of permanent scarring, and the potential for nerve damage. Also, they are considered hair restoration surgeries, unlike the FUE hair transplant, which is transplantation surgery.

The FUE hair transplant is an improvement of the punch graft technique. Punch grafts are 4mm grafts which result in what we call “doll’s hair.”  Another unsightly outcome of punch graft surgery is the 4mm round bald marks left permanently on the back of the head. Minigrafts and micrografts were developed as an improvement of this method, but still yield unnatural, pluggy-looking results as compared to FUE hair transplant.

FUE Hair Transplant vs Strip Surgery:

Follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) also known as “strip harvesting,” is considered the traditional method and has been the recent leader in hair transplant surgery. FUSS extracts a strip of flesh from the rear and/or sides of the head, which will be microscopically divided to provide donor follicles for transplantation. A

disadvantage of FUSS is that it promises a permanent linear scar to be left as a result. The patient must then wear a longer hairstyle in order to conceal the scar.

FUE hair transplant does not extract follicular units in a strip of flesh like FUSS. This means FUE hair

transplant is more labor intensive for practitioners, requires longer operation time, and is more expensive for patients. However, consumer demand agrees that the pros of FUE hair transplant as compared to FUSS far outweigh the cons. FUE hair transplantation offers:

  •  A less invasive procedure
  • A quicker recovery time
  • The possibility to use finer hairs, such as those found at the nape of the neck, to better refine the hairline
  • No linear scarring; only tiny round, cosmetically negligible marks in the donor area. This also means patients will be free to wear short hair styles, not bound to long hair styles for concealing a strip scar.
  • Less likelihood of permanent nerve damage.
  • An infinitely larger pool of donor hair, as FUE hair transplant enables body hair transplantation (BHT)

Body Hair Transplantation:

Furthermore, advanced FUE practitioners such as Dr. Umar—a pioneer and world leader in this technique—are able to markedly broaden the pool of donor hair through the advent of body hair transplantation. BHT allows for the extraction of donor hair from the beard, chest, stomach, arms, and legs, with cosmetically negligible scarring. Patients who lack head donor hair and were therefore considered poor candidates in the past now join the ranks of potential FUE hair transplant patients.

GOOD CANDIDATES FOR FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT

Potential candidates for FUE hair transplant using head hair only are those who do not suffer a total depletion of scalp donor hair. An FUE clinic that does not practice BHT would be unable to service a patient without sufficient head hair remaining in tact.

A clinic that does put body hair transplantation into practice, such as the Empathy Clinic of Los Angeles, would be equipped to service patients whose scalp hair loss is so severe that their head donor hair is not sufficient for transplantation. This includes FUE hair transplant patients who:

  • Suffer from severe pattern baldness
  • Have excessive scarring from previous surgery
  • Have endured some sort of accident or burn that has left them bald

POOR CANDIDATES FOR FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT

While follicular unit extraction using body hair transplantation has changed the face of hair loss, there remain some people who still will not qualify for this type of surgery.

  1. People who lack the supply of good quality head, body, or beard hair will not be candidates for any type of FUE hair transplant, even with the use of BHT.
  2. There is a relative contraindication for hair transplant generally in patients who are too young, i.e., below the age of 24. This is due to the fact that a person under the age of 24 who suffers from androgenic alopecia has likely not finished balding. Also, this age group may be psychologically and financially unprepared to grasp the long term implications of hair transplant. That said, after careful counseling, even young patients can undergo an FUE hair transplant. Counseling must fully take into account: future hair loss, total available donor pool, and the patient’s ability to countenance future follow-up transplantation (which could create an unnatural look if not done).
  3. Some People with extremely curly or kinked follicles, such as most of African descent. These patients should ideally under go a test procedure to determine their transection rates and consequently their suitability for FUE hair transplant.
  4. People with an abnormal tendency to scar, as in scar hypertrophy, or keloids.
  5. People with bleeding or clotting abnormalities.
  6. People with allergies to local anesthesia.

COMPLICATIONS OF FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT

Follicular unit extraction is a safe and minimally invasive method of hair transplantation. Patients can minimize their risk by following all pre- and post-procedural instructions and by selecting an experienced surgeon. However complications may yet arise even in the best of circumstances. Factors that increase the chance of complications of FUE hair transplant could include:

  • Physiology of the patient
  • An inexperienced practitioner
  • A practitioner who values quantity over quality
  • A practitioner who abdicates his skills to unlicensed personnel or flawed machines ( eg vacuum based technologies or robots that lack the human touch)
  • Unknown and unforeseen complication factors may arise on rare occasion

WHY FUE TOOLS SUCH AS NEOGRAFT AND ARTAS COULD BE THE WRONG OPTION

In the opinion of the author, “hands-free” extractors such as the artas robots and vacuum suction are fraught with to many potential problems to be the answer for your FUE hair transplant. No automated device can discern a prime follicular unit as an experienced physician can, nor extract it with the care required to preserve its life for implantation into the recipient area. While the NeoGraft and Artas are both faulty for this obvious reason, they also each carry individual problems.

NeoGraft:

  • Uses an air vacuum to extract donor follicles. This very mechanism opposes the nature of FUE hair transplant, as it dries out the follicle, potentially killing it.
  • When used to implant grafts, it would not allow follicles to be tightly packed into the recipient area, as the implantation device is too large for such specificity.
  • The vacuum sucked follicle on its way to the receiving bottle will collide violently against the tubing of this device, further harming it and compromising its survival.
  • If used to place grafts in the recipient would increase the risk of buried grafts due to the relative loss of depth control. This leads to cysts and pitting on the scalp.

Artas:

  • Higher transection rates of up to 15% has been cited for this device although its manufacturer’s and vendors claim the transection rate is improving with time, this is difficult to ascertain at this point. In the hands of an experienced FUE practitioner a transection rate of 2-5% is common.
  • Can only be used on people with straight dark brown or black hair.
  • Since it uses a sharp punch followed by a dull punch, there is an increased risk of buried grafts s the dull punch may push the partially separated grafts furthe into the scalp increasing the risk of cyst formation, not to mention the graft that is damaged in the process.
  • Since the machine would have punch out hundreds of grafts before the physician typical check in, if transection rates are high, many grafts would have been wasted before the procedure is aborted.
  • It is a cumbersome process. The patient is placed in a particular position while an area of about 5 by 10 cm is isolated for the machine to gauge. The distance from the machine is set. The machine then goes to work. obviously any movement on the patients path would be problematic. After this area is worked, the physician then removes the grafts with a forcep. Then the process of strapping the patients head in a different position and machine calibration is done all over again. The procedure is clearly too cumbersome for the patient and not efficient when compared to an experienced FUE surgeon using a hand held device to feel around each and every grafts as it is removed. Control is by the seconds rather than between hundreds of graft separation.

FUE HAIR TRANSPLANTATION CONTINUES TO PROVE ITS VALUE

The FUE hair transplant is, hands down, today’s leading surgical technique for hair restoration. While it does require practitioners to take their time implementing the utmost skill, the life-changing results patients enjoy makes it a highly rewarding process overall. FUE hair transplant using body hair transplantation has also become much more widely used and accepted because of its undeniable success rates in the hands of experienced practitioners

Growth of transplanted hair after surgery

Growth of transplanted hair after surgery

The transplanted hair grow for 2-3 weeks, then the hair shafts fall off, the roots remaining in the scalp and the shafts start coming back after 2-3 months of surgery.

The hair come back at a very slow pace and a great deal of patience is required during this period. About 40-50% hair come back after 6 months and 75% after 9 months and about 90% of transplanted hair come back after 1 year of surgery.

Microfollicular Hair Transplant Procedure

Hair transplant is a comfortable procedure performed as a Day Care procedure, performed under local anesthesia, while the  patient may work on his laptop, mobile or simply read a novel. After the numbing effect of the local anesthesia has taken place.

A strip of hair bearing skin is taken from the back of the head. This area is relatively unaffected by the male hormones which are responsible for baldness. The hair bearing strip is separated to single follicular units under magnification. It is to be noted that each follicular unit contains more than 1 follicle. A good team performing hair transplant manages each unit to contain 1-4 hair follicles. On an average each graft or a follicular unit contain 2.5 hair follicles or hair. While the assistants are separating grafts from the strip, the surgeon makes micro slits in the area of the transplant. This step is the most important step since the surgeon decides the density of the transplant, and the direction of the transplanted hair at this stage. The next step is implantation of the grafts into these pre formed slits. This procedure can take 3- 6 hours depending on the number of grafts. Usually these two procedures are done side by side, so the whole process can be expected to last 4-6 hours. For the front of the head about 1500-2000 hair follicle units are required. For a complete coverage, about 6000 units may be required. It is preferable to make a second replacement after 6-8 months. For 1000-1200 grafts, it takes 3 hours, while a 2000-2200 graft session takes 4.5 hours.

Hair transplant for bald areas
This involved hair transplant in areas where there is no hair, and that patch is effectively bald. Extremely satisfying results are obtained in  this group.

Hair transplant for density increase
This is more difficult, since any injury to existing hair is to be avoided. Extremely satisfying results are achieved. The instrumentation for this procedure is slightly different.
After Hair Transplant frontal view by Dr. Jennifer Martinick
Pre Procedure Protocol
Patients are required to complete a Consult Form ( ATTACHMENT WITH THE MAIL. – SHOULD OPEN IN A DOWNLOADABLE WINDOW WHEN CLICKED). Any medicines being used, particularly anti diabetics, blood thinner medicines must be revealed.

All patients should do the following tests – Haemoglobin, blood sugar, blood urea, HIV, HbsAg, Anti HCV. For patients above 35yrs, ECG is also advised.
Rationale
The hair is taken from the back portion of the head, which is relatively resistant to action of male hormone responsible for hair loss. Thus this hair persists nearly life long. The hair that is transplanted carries with it the genetic property of its original position, so it resists hair fall.

The techniques for hair transplant are -
  1. Microfollicular hair transplant with Strip procedure.
  2. Follicular hair transplant – extraction of roots one by one Body hair transplant – use of hair from the chest, arms, pubic area, underarms etc.
Refinements
Hair transplant has undergone a number of refinements. In the microfollicular technique, the earlier used punches have given way to use of micrografts. These are follicular units with 1-3 hair follicles, giving a very Natural hair line appearance. The use of fine and delicate instruments like microneedles, micropunches, micro forceps etc have made handling of tissues more delicate and with no damage to hair follicles at all.

Use of microscopes and magnification has allowed larger hair follicle harvesting and better survival of grafts.

Long acting anesthetic agents, allow long term pain relief, allowing the procedure to be more comfortable.
Post Transplant Care
We advise the following medicines and care after a transplant -
  • Tablet levoflox 750 mg once daily for 5 days.
  • Tablet ketanov thrice daily for 5 days.
  • Nupatch 100 mg twice daily for 5 days.
  1. Please keep the head band on for 3 days. The purpose of the head band is to reduce the swelling that occurs in the forehead region.
  2. Head washing is to be started on the 4th day after removing the head band. The washing is to be gentle over the transplanted region, and scrub over the area of the stitches to keep them clean. This needs to be done daily from the 4th – 18 the day
  3. You will notice scabs around each hair follicle, please do not pull them out, they will wash off gradually
  4. No showering is allowed for 3 weeks, have a bath with mug
  5. Baby shampoo is advised for the first 14 days
  6. Stich removal is to be done on Day 14
  7. Please avoid all exercises, gym, exertion and even bending movements for 3 weeks
  8. Please continue all medicines as had been advised to you in the pre procedure preparation form
  9. Avoid smoking and drinks for at least 7 days. Smoking causes hair loss and you are advised to quit smoking to maintain good hair growth. Cigarettes contain nicotine, which is responsible for hair loss
  10. avoid t-shirts and round neck sweaters for 3 weeks
  11. avoid colouring your hair for 3 weeks
  12. restrict the use of helmets to avoid hair loss
Follow up schedule -
  1. You will be asked to review at the clinic at 14 days, 3 months, 4 months and 6 months post procedure.
  2. Please remember that in the initial few weeks ( 2- 6 weeks) the transplanted hair will shed off. PLEASE DO NOT WORRY FOR THIS HAIR LOSS since the roots are firmly in, and hair growth will occur in about 3 months post procedure.
  3. Occasional pimples will occur in the transplanted region. These are not a cause for concern
  4. Numbness in the front and back can persist for 3 weeks or longer, please be assured that this is temporary and will go away on its own

Hair Transplant DELHI

Side Effects
Hair transplant has undergone a number of refinements. In the microfollicular technique, the earlier usedThere are no side effects to the procedure. if the patient undergoes the strip technique the scar that is given is usually very fine and invisible through the hair. No complications are expected over the transplanted region. Dandruff and acne must be prevented and actively treated should they develop.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
Follicular unit extraction is a relatively new procedure for hair transplant. This technique involves individual extraction of follicular units rather than the entire strip. This is useful in patients who keep short hair and do not want the scar to show.

The advantages of this procedure are -
  1. Strip is not removed – thus no scar
  2. more comfortable in the initial post op period
  3. very useful for small sessions, touch up procedures, eyebrow, hair line procedures

Disadvantages of this procedure are -

  1. lesser number of grafts can be done in one session – a maximum of 1400-1600 grafts ( equivalent of 4000 follicles) can be done. If requirement is more, then the next session will be done after 3 months
  2. there is about 10 % wastage of grafts since this is a relatively blind procedure of extraction
  3. the hair per graft yield is a little less than in the strip procedure due to transection of some roots in the FUE procedure
The result in both the techniques is almost the  same, there is almost no difference in terms of density, distribution and appearance after a transplant in the 2 techniques
Body Hair Transplant (BHT)
Body hair transplant utilizes the FUE technique to perform chest hair transplant, beard transplant, axilla hair transplant, pubic hair transplant. However the density of hair in this region is very poor, and often the grafts contain only 1 or 2 follicles. Further the growth cycle of body hair is very slow, taking more than 6 months to start their growth. Body hair transplant is reserved only if scalp hair is not available.
Hair Transplant Surgery in Delhi - Frequently Asked Questions

Why I need hair transplant i.e., surgery, when medication and other non-surgical means are available?

Medications
  • Medication can thicken and lengthen (regrowth) hair in some and not in all who take them.
  • Medication is effective at the back (Vertex) and middle (Mid scalp) but almost ineffective in the front (esp. Hair line) where one needs the hair most.
  • Medication can work only until you keep taking if you stop taking medication the benefits achieved by medication soon start disappearing (because the hormones once again start working their ill effects). Medication although reasonably safe should be taken for lifetime –the idea normally puts off many.
  • Medications although fairly safe are not without any side effects
Other Non- Surgical means
  • Wigs and Concealers are other possible solutions to baldness. Concealers are temporary hair cosmetics, good for thinning hair and as temporary solution such as before going to party. They require regular care and expense. They are not cheap either.
As for the wigs: 10 reasons why people don't choose wig
  1. It gives constant feeling of weight and discomfort in hot days.
  2. Sweat cannot be cleaned properly and bad hygiene can lead to skin problems.
  3. Its fixing methods like weaving, bonding, pinning etc. can pull on the natural remaining hair and add to your hair loss and can even lead to scarring.
  4. It gives same look all the time that looks and feels artificial and unnatural. You have Fixed style all hours of use.
  5. Its high level of detectability becomes a butt of jokes and teasing by the friends, collogues and media.
  6. Its cost run from few hundred dollars to many thousand dollars depending upon quality.
  7. You need regular maintenance every few weeks for the rest of your life. Attachment may become loose- constant state of low-level paranoia and anxiety about his public discovery.
  8. Long-term financial investment because of regular maintenance may be more than that of hair transplant surgery. With life time maintenance & few monthly replacement & frequent visits to wig maker- it becomes very expensive.
  9. You need to change it every few months.
  10. Not done by doctors.
Surgery by Follicular Hair Transplant is better in many respects
  • Hair after Hair Transplant Surgery Looks and feels natural unlike wig and concealer.
  • Hair after hair transplant surgery remains undetectable among the other hair.
  • After hair transplant surgery, hair grows and keeps growing permanently unlike the hair of wig and the regrown hair by Medication.
  • After Hair Transplant Surgery, you do not require extra maintenance or care unlike wig, which require lifetime care.
  • The hair from hair transplant surgery can be cut, colored and styled as well.
  • Hair Transplant Surgery normally has one time expense unlike medication or wig which require lifetime expense.
  • Hair Transplant Surgery is a One day Procedure performed by numbing your skin so you can talk with hair transplant surgeon , watch TV, listen to music, read, take a nap, have lunch and juice and even go to toilet!

  • You can take shoulder bath from the day of the hair transplant surgery and can shampoo your hair from 3rd day of hair transplant surgery.
  • You can even do light office work from second day of hair transplant surgery.
  • If you are from out station you may travel back on the day of the hair transplant surgery or the next day. Minimum follow-up is required after hair transplant surgery.
What is the guarantee that, after hair transplant surgery, the implanted hair will grow? Why don't they too fall under the effect of hormones like other hair?
  • The Common Baldness or Pattern baldness in males and Female is programmed by heredity or genes i.e. the hair in the top middle part of scalp become susceptible to the effect of the hormones and the fringe of hair at the side and back remain genetically immune to the effect of hormones. These hairs grow permanently or at least till late age and they also maintain their quality unlike the susceptible hair of middle, which shorten and thin out in caliber as well. These hairs are called permanent hair. In hair transplant surgery, we remove the hair roots from permanent area and graft them in front or any other part of scalp or body they keep growing like they used to do in their native area. The hormones even in new area don't affect these hair. Over 90% of the implanted hair are destined to survive with modern techniques of hair transplant surgery.
Do I have to wait till all my hair fall out or can I under go hair transplant surgery to increase my hair density?
  • Like any medical problem, one should not wait for hair transplant surgery till the last stage of manifestation of deformity of baldness. As the density of hairs gets down, one can safely plant the follicles in-between existing hairs, to compensate for the loss, without looking bald.
Can girls and women undergo hair transplant surgery?
  • Yes, girls and women can take benefit of hair transplant surgery for the correct indications.
Can hair transplant surgery be done if there is no hair on head?

Can hair from other parts of my body be transplanted?
  • Technically hair transplant surgery from other parts of the body is possible but hair follicle from the other parts of the body when planted on the head, does maintain its genetic characteristics, and hence it does not look, feel and grow as good as scalp hair.
Do I need to get my hair trimmed short before the hair transplant surgery?
  • We recommend, not to undergo short trimming. Longer hair may make our plantation a bit difficult but these existing long hair will help to hide (cover) plantation site and donor site in such a way that no one can make out that you have under gone hair hair transplant surgery.
How many follicles will I require for hair transplant surgery?
Number of follicles required for hair transplant surgery is based on factors that vary among individuals.
  • Degree & Progress of hair loss.
  • Hair characteristics
  • Area where hair transplant surgery is desired
  • Expectation by patient
The total number of hair on the head remains the same as before or after Hair Transplant Surgery. The hair root from 'permanent hair growing area" from the back and side of the head (medically known as Hair Bank or Donor Area) is transferred to the front and /or top of the head. In Hair Transplant Surgery no new hair is grown. Only the transplanted hair roots are arranged in such a way that head looks fuller with hair.

We have approximately 1,00,000 hair on head. In the last stage of baldness i.e. Stage 7 baldness; he is left with almost 25,000 hair on the back and side of his head (medically known as Hair Bank or Donor Area). From this area, we can harvest up to 60 % or 15000 hairs, without looking obvious. One sq. cm of Donor Area contains 100 follicles, but each follicle (Root) may have either 1.2.3 or 4 number of hair. If you have more follicles containing 3 or 4 hair, you will have more density than one having 1 or 2 hair in each follicles. On an average each hair follicle contains 1.5-to2 hairs. So, on an average 100 follicles will contain up to 200 hairs. 15,000 hair means up to about 7 500 follicles are available for transplant from your donor site. These follicles are planted in such an artistic and Staggered pattern to create what is called an Organized Disorder Pattern over the bald area that head looks full of hair. Hair transplant surgery is the combination of Art and Science both, which gives most natural result.

Normally, you have density of 100 -follicles/sq cm on the head. We do not see the bald skin until we lose up to 60% of hair in the area. So in view of the limited availability of longer lasting follicles in the bank, we should aim for the maximum density of up to 40% plus /Sq.cm esp. in vital areas like frontal forelock. You do not get the same density all over, as before but you can make it look like near normal density.

It goes without saying for the Number of the hair that " More the merrier". But unfortunately you have 4 acres of seeds to be used for 12 acres of land! On an average 6 to 7000 follicles should be distributed for a person with Grade 7 baldness. The number is often the minimum requirement i.e.

What density will I get after hair transplant surgery?
  • Hair Density (mass or fullness) is more with
  • Length of each hair
  • Thickness of hair
  • Number of hairs per sq.cm. (Density)
  • Acuteness of angle of exit of hair from the skin. This factor depend on the artistic ability of hair transplant surgeon
  • More perpendicular (coronal) direction of hair to the hole while inserting hair follicle. This factor depend on the artistic ability of hair transplant surgeon.
  • Number of Hair per follicle like, 3-4 hair per follicle give more density
  • Curliness of hair
  • Low Contrast between color of hair and color of scalp
  • Time: Hair starts growing after about 8 to 12 weeks from plantation and continues to grow at the rate of 1 cm per month. So, only with the passage of time, the hair mass will increase. With hair transplant surgery, you do not get the same density all over, as before but you can make it look like near normal density.

Do you do megassion and dense packing?
  • Megasession of over 1500 grafts usually up to 3500 follicles in one day has benefit of avoiding multiple small sessions for bigger area of baldness. We do it routinely due to our well-trained team of over 8 people. Dense packing consumes many more grafts because one sq. c.m. is implanted with 25 to 50 grafts. This is normally done in the area of frontal forelock so as to have fullness in the front without exhausting the donor area.
AFTER HAIR TRANSPLANT SURGERY

What is the after care of hair transplant surgery? Post-operative instructions.

  • Few years back hair transplant community used laser to drill micro holes for implanting hair roots. They soon found out that the hair growth was poor and laser was doing more damage to the wall of the hole and its blood supply then it helped. As a result no hair transplant surgeon of good standing in the world uses laser for hair transplant. But for Low Level Laser Therapy (lll) or Cold Laser as it is called is proclaimed promising for improving the thinned out hair harmlessly are used by us after hair transplant surgery to enhance the results.
How soon can the same hair transplant surgery be repeated in the same area?
  • Theoretically, to increase the density one may repeat the plantation within 6-8 months of the hair transplant surgery.
Why Hair Transplant Works?

Hair in the front and top of head is lost because it is Genetically hormone susceptible. Hair on the sides and lower back are genetically immune to hormone sensitivity and are genetically programmed to grow a lifetime, it will continue to grow ven though it is transplanted to a different site. This is the medical fact, and has been repeatedly proven for more than 50 years.

Follicular Unit Hair Transplant is the only method by which one can grow permanently growing, natural looking, and undetectable hair in the bald or thin area. In olden days people used Punch or plug grafts where bunches of 15-25 hair in a plug taken from the side or the back of the scalp (Donor Area) were implanted in the front. This gave the typical pluggy (Cornrow, baby doll, tooth brush or cobble stone) appearance.

They were later replaced in 1980s by Mini and then Micro grafts, which were randomly, cut smaller grafts of 5-8 hairs and 1-3 hairs respectively. The results improved but were still not near natural looking. 1983 it was discovered that nature grows our hair in groups of 1,2,3 or 4 hairs. These were called the Follicular Units. So surgeons started cutting and transplanting the grafts in the nature's way i.e. as Follicular Units and that gave completely natural looking hair and therefore Follicular Unit Transplant although is a highly skilled and labour and techno intensive procedure, has become the Gold Standard today.

Facts- Hair loss & Baldness

Hair Loss (ALOPECIA) and Baldness come in 3 Forms: Pattern, Patchy and Diffuse

    Pattern
(Particular Shape)
Most Common Type
  Patchy
(Localized, Focal)
  Diffuse
Characteristics You lose hair in front and on the top but a horseshoe shaped area at the back and on the sides is un affected. You lose hair only in patches on the scalp and rest of the area hair growth is normal. You lose hair on entire scalp and not on just a particular area leading to generalized thinning or generalized baldness.
Common Causes
  • Male Pattern Baldness (MPB/AHA Androgenetic Alopecia)
  • Common Baldness
  • Female Pattern Baldness (FPB)
  • Alopecia Areata
  • Scarring Alopecia
  • Trichotelomania
  • Traction Alopecia
Alopecia due to various skin problems like Lupus, Scleroderma, Pseudopalade, Tinea Capitis etc.
  • Telogen Effluvium
  • Anagen Effluvium
  • Rare Hair Shaft Disorders
  • Brief Description Common Baldness (MPB or AHA) and FPB Androgenetic Alopecia (AHA) is by far the most common cause of hair loss. This is due to 2 reasons
    1. Genes
    2. Hormones
    Alopecia Areata:
This as a common Autoimmune disease where the body 's immune system perceives the hair as its own enemy and start attacking and destroying them. This is treatable only in early stage but recurrence may not be prevented. It may recur in other part of scalp, beard or other part of scalp. Chronic disease is difficult to cure when many roots are destroyed. Hair Transplant is usually not done.

    Scarring or Cicatricle Alopecia:
After burns or other injuries to the scalp there can be permanent damage to the hair roots and in that patch hair do not grow. Usually due to scarring the blood supply in that area is poor.

    Traction Alopecia & Trichotelomania:
Due to the tight hair style in women or in Sikhs like braiding or the use of weave or pins of wig continually pulls on the hair and the roots may get damaged in long run and can cause hair loss. In Obsessive psychiatric disorder called Trichotellomania the patient is in a habit of pulling the hair in one area and ends up in a patchy hair loss in that area.
    Telogen Effluvium:
A period of Physical or mental stress, delivery of a baby in females etc. can lead to generalized loss of hair from scalp within few weeks due to shortening of Growth cycle and entering of hair in Telogen phase. This is temporary because after 6 months of relief in stress period the hair starts regrowing. Telogen effluvium can precipitate or even aggravate pattern baldness if one is genetically susceptible to develop MPB or FPB

    Anagen Effluvium:
Chemotherapy or certain Toxins can stop further growth of the growing hair and the already grown hair brakes and sheds over few days.
If you have Androgenetic Alopecia, like many other people, you were destined to lose hair from the time you were conceived. You have a group of genes that act together to make your hair susceptible to natural hormones in the body. You inherited these genes from either side of the family or from both sides and these genes may affect you more or less than other members of the family.
Androgens, the so-called male hormones, are produced by both men and women, in the testicles, ovaries, and adrenal glands. The adrenal glands are small glands above the kidneys. Testosterone is the most well-known androgen. At puberty, testosterone levels rise and, among other effects, cause the fine, short, "velus" or baby hair in the pubic areas and in the armpits to become coarser hair.
In the scalp, testosterone is converted, by an enzyme called "5-alpha reductase", to a different androgen called "Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)." DHT, more than any other androgen, causes genetically sensitive hair to be lost. In genetically sensitive hair, DHT causes each generation of hair to become progressively smaller. This process is called miniaturization. DHT causes each generation of hair to become more narrow, short and lighter in color. Eventually the root stops producing hairs altogether.
There are two medications that have been proven to slow down Androgenetic Alopecia. Finasteride (Propecia or Proscar) blocks a type of five alpha reductase to decrease the amount of DHT. Minoxidil (Rogaine) seems to work directly on the hair cells and prolongs the growing phase. Medications can slow down the process on a temporary basis but they cannot stop it. Follicular unit hair transplantation, however, can provide a lasting improvement.
Some hairstyles, like braiding can cause hair loss.
Styles that pull or put tension on the hairs - such as tight ponytails or cornrows - can cause hair loss.
Hair loss can be aggravated by other conditions.
Iron deficiency can make hair loss worse and is fairly common in vegetarians and women. Iron deficiency is not a diagnosis by itself and the cause must be found. Correcting iron deficiency can slow down the progression of hair loss but is not likely to cause a major improvement in your hair. Severe malnutrition and protein deficiency can also contribute to hair loss but hair loss would be the least of your worries. Thyroid disease can aggravate hair loss. Hair loss can occur with either an under active thyroid or an overactive thyroid. Elevated Hormones can speed up hair loss. Men (or women) who take anabolic steroids for bodybuilding often notice accelerated hair loss.
Does stress contribute to hair loss?
Both psychological and physical stress, especially if they are intense and prolonged, can contribute to temporary hair loss. They do this by perhaps altering the hair cycle: shortening the growing stage or lengthening the resting stage. Stress may also have a negative impact on the immune system leading to a more severe type of hair loss called alopecia areata. When the stressful situation is over or the body adjusts to it, the hair usually grows back.

    Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) Procedure

The DHI procedure starts when you book your first consultation to plan your DHI procedure once you have chosen clinic. It includes when you go to have your DHI procedure (when you are given the opportunity to ask any last minute questions and when your team prepares you to have your local anaesthetic all the way through the procedure itself and all of your after care and any repeat sessions that you may require.

    Planning Your DHI Procedure

Your DHI transplant surgeon will come up with a plan that is specific to the hair around your body that you wish to use as your donor hair and the covering that you wish to have on your head at the end of the procedure. The planning of the transplant will enable your transplant surgeon to ensure that the transplanted hair grows on your head in a way that blends in with the rest of the hair on your head (so that it is the same texture and grows in the same direction). Previous DHI procedures have shown that the transplanted hair blends in well with the rest of your hair but planning will ensure that you get the most out of your DHI procedure (by removing your unwanted hair as well as providing you with the finished result on your scalp that you want).

    The DHI Procedure

Your DHI procedure will start once you have been given a local anaesthetic. This means that you will be awake and able to communicate with your DHI transplant surgery team throughout the entire DHI procedure. This means that you are free to ask questions during your DHI procedure and also allows your DHI surgeons to show your replaced follicles as your results progress. However, you may also want to nap during your DHI procedure and use the lavatory which are both possible whilst you are still under local anaesthetic. In this way your comfort will be the focus of your DHI transplant team.

A specialised instrument is used to extract individual hair follicles from your donor area which is the area at the back of your neck and around the sides of your head where hair exists. This hair is removed a single follicle at a time and each time a follicle is taken from the donor area it is immediately implanted into the area where you are experiencing hair loss. This means that your hair spends less time outside your body compared to other (older) techniques of hair replacement and partly explains the higher success rate of the DHI technique. More specialised instruments are used to place the hair follicles into the areas where you wish to see more hair. It is implanted in a way that ensures it lies at the same angle and direction as the nearby hair at a depth that means it will never fall out.

In a single DHI procedure your DHI transplant team will extract and implant around 6000 individual hair follicles leaving you with an immediate result. Hair is usually implanted at a density of around 50 follicles per centimetre squared (which leaves about 1mm between each hair) leaving you with an immediately denser hair covering.

Your DHI procedure will typically take between four to six hours. However the exact length of the procedure will vary between clinics and depend on the size of your head and the size of the area where you wish to see a denser hair growth. During this time you will be able to use the lavatory, have small amounts of food (if you wish) and talk to your DHI transplant team.

Results after Having Your DHI Procedure

As soon as you leave the clinic you will have a larger amount of hair in the area where your follicles were implanted. You will have a less dense amount of hair in your donor area (around the back and sides of your hair) but this reduction in density will be matched by the increase in density of hair at the front of your head so that you will end up with a more even hair distribution over the entirety of your scalp. The hair in your donor area should continue to grow enabling it to be used multiple times as donor hair if you require subsequent treatments. The implanted hair will never fall out, although your natural hair in the implanted area may continue to fall out.

You will not have any bandaging to wear after your DHI treatment (this means that you will immediately be able to see the results) and you will be able to go straight home to recover from the local anaesthetic. DHI leaves no scarring, requires no stitches and will not leave you with any shaved areas. The implanted hair will start to grow in around six weeks, depending on how long it takes your hair follicles to imbed into your scalp and how quickly capillaries are able to form in these areas. Capillary growth is necessary around the newly implanted follicles so that blood can flow to the hair and provide it with the nutrients it requires to grow.

Previously with older techniques, the handling of hair follicles was necessary during certain phases of the procedure, such as to examine them under a microscope, when preserving them in a saline solution in Petri dishes, when counting them and also when loading the implanters.

    • Advantages

      • Smaller diameter punches (0.7-0.85 mm) lead to faster healing & less marks.
      • Direct implantation of grafts without receptions results in less trauma of the skin, less damage to the local blood supply and no scarring.
      • Less invasive.
      • Less traumatic.
      • Significantly reduced bleeding.
      • Minimal risk of infection as the hair follicles are transferred immediately from the donor area to the recipient area.
      • Less scarring after the procedure.
      • No microscope needed, so that the exposure of the hair follicles in intense light & heat is avoided.
No handling of the grafts is required, thus increasing the survival of the hair follicles.
      • Less fatigue for the patient (seated position).
      • Diminished desiccation of the grafts (minimal time out of the skin).
      • Less anesthesia, less medication needed.
      • Increased graft survival.
      • Early hair growth as most transferred hair follicles enter the anagen phase immediately.

When each hair follicle is extracted separately and transferred immediately to the recipient, the time that the hair follicles remain out of the body is diminished from hours to only a few seconds. How will it affect my hair growth if I get the procedure now?

Real Differences Between the DHI Total Care System™ and FUE.
In the last decade, there have been great advances in the field of hair restoration. In 2002 DHI Medical Group was one of the major innovators in Follicular Unit Extraction. After years of refinement, DHI replaced FUE in 2004 with the DHI Direct Hair Implantation™, the centrepiece of the DHI Total Care System™. This cutting-edge system offers many benefits over FUE.

    Here are just a few:
By definition, FUE means Follicular Unit Extraction. In the FUE method, there are no specific or uniform advances in hair placement. Most often, forceps are used for placement which can cause “over handling” of the follicle leading to shock and less viable implants.

DHI Medical Group’s specialized tool for extraction, the DHI Implanter, allows us to precisely control placement, depth, and direction of implanted hair. This means that DHI can create a totally natural hairline free from the pitting and discolouration sometimes associated with FUE and other traditional methods.

In one session, DHI’s surgeons can remove up to 6000 individual hairs. FUE is limited to approximately 2000 hairs per day, extracted in bunches of up to 5 hairs. FUE patients are obliged to shave their entire scalp prior to the procedure. The DHI Direct technique does not need a shaved scalp, so there is no need to explain that you received a treatment. DHI Direct can be applied to all hair types whereas FUE candidates must be tested to determine if their hair type is compatible with FUE. In addition, at DHI, specialized doctors perform the entire procedure. Our competitors who use the standard FUE protocol often use a team of nurses to handle the scalp and grafts. While FUE is available in different forms at specific clinics, the DHI Direct Technique is a proprietary technique that is part of the DHI System™ and available only at our clinics. The DHI Total Care System™ provides a comprehensive procedure for all degrees of hair loss and scalp conditions.

What can I expect during my hair transplant procedure?
Every DHI client receives VIP service and every effort will be made to ensure your comfort. You can take frequent breaks, use the restroom at any time, rest during the procedure and even take a nap. The entire procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia so you will be able to talk with us and ask questions at any time throughout the procedure. In addition, you will have frequent opportunities to see how your follicles are placed and aligned to match your hairline, orientation, growth angle and direction of your natural hair.

How does body hair implantation work?
If your scalp has been damaged from previous strip surgeries or you have an advanced stage of hair loss, we can now move hair follicles from nearly every part of the body such as the back and chest. Amazingly enough, the body hair we select will look and feel  like scalp hair after it’s implanted. In fact, body hair that only grows an inch or two on the body will grow as long as scalp hair, after a transplant. An added benefit is that this procedure eliminates hair from unwanted places such as the chest and back.

    Is Direct Hair Implantation painful?
The procedure is virtually painless and causes less irritation than say getting a tattoo. DHI applies local anesthesia and the client can relax, listen to music, watch TV, enjoy a light lunch and even nap during the procedure. Overall, the entire procedure is completed within 4 to 6 hours. There is only a simple bandage applied to the application area, so our clients leave looking virtually the same as when they came in.

    When will I see growth?
Growth of your transplanted hairs will be visible after 16 weeks, depending on how quickly the capillaries form around the newly relocated follicular units. This newly transferred hair grows naturally in its new location for the rest of your life, because the donor region is genetically programmed against hair loss.

How many sessions will be necessary to complete my hair restoration?
The number of sessions depends on the size of your balding area, donor yield and your own personal goals. In order to ensure optimal density throughout their lifetime, our clients often opt for two sessions or more. With our diagnostic tools, specially designed equipment and mathematics, we will inform each client of the precise amount of donor hair available to them.

Can grey hair be transplanted to the thinning area?
Yes, however if the hairs are very white, we may need to temporarily dye the hairs for ease of insertion by our medical staff. A temporary vegetable henna-based dye is used which will wash out with time.

    Advantages

    • Smaller diameter punches (0.7-0.85 mm) lead to faster healing & less marks.
    • Direct implantation of grafts without receptions results in less trauma of the skin, less damage to the local blood supply and no scarring.
    • Less invasive.

    • Less anesthesia, less medication needed.
    • Increased graft survival.
    • Early hair growth as most transferred hair follicles enter the anagen phase immediately

To preserve and enhance hair follicle viability between the time that hair follicles are removed from a donor area of the scalp and transplanted into a recipient area, they are subject to damage from several causes:

    • Dehydration if the donor follicles are inadequately moistened between the times of removal and transplantation;
    • Oxygen and nutrient starvation due to being removed from blood supply during the harvest-to-transplantation time period;
    • Temperature and acid/alkaline changes in the follicle environment; and,
    • Revascularization injury when the donor follicles are transplanted to the recipient site and must re-adapt to having a blood supply.

Now with DHI the individual hair follicular units can be removed with a specially designed tool that leaves nothing more than a pin prick. The important point is not only does the hair come out but all the associated portions of the unit including the sebaceous glands and adventitial sheath. These are absolutely necessary for a successful transplant otherwise the new hair transplant unit will die just like the old one did.
DHI revolutionary form of hair transplantation has completely changed the hair restoration game and made re-growing hair in your bald spot a breeze. There is now absolutely no reason at all to not give very strong consideration to a hair transplantation procedure in order to get back that youthful looking full head of hair.

So... what would you choose ?

With all these factors now eliminated, the overall minimally invasive nature of the new technique, is most certainly a key factor in diminishing the fatigue factor of hair follicles and therefore increases their overall long term survival. This is because each hair follicle is extracted separately and transferred immediately to the recipient, thus the time that the hair follicles remain out of the body is diminished from hours to only a few seconds.

The Direct Hair Implantation Technique saves so much time that our patients and medical team need never suffer from fatigue.
This is a sophisticated, fast, new technique that our customers find life changing, painless and most satisfying.

You can compare for yourself the superiority of the DHI Direct Hair Implantation Technique over the other hair restoration treatments available today and make your decision. The Direct Hair Implantation Technique is the most advanced hair implantation technique ever developed!

Hair Transplantation Treatment Delhi, Hair Transplantation Clinic India
performed with excellent results in the treatment of genetic hair loss in women, as well as in scars resulting from face lifts and other facial surgery, burns, accidents, or as a result of various hair loss diseases.

This was usually seen in the intermediate stages between hair transplant sessions, or if a person decided not to complete the
Hair Transplantation Treatment Delhi, Hair Transplantation Clinic India
required number of surgeries.

The transplanted hair grow for 2-3 weeks, then the hair shafts fall off, the roots remaining in the scalp and the shafts start coming back after 2-3 months of surgery.

The hair come back at a very slow pace and a great deal of patience is required during this period. About 40-50% hair come back after 6 months and 75% after 9 months and about 90% of transplanted hair come back after 1 year of surgery.

    FUE Post OP Instructions

    • No bandages at the end of Hair Transplant Surgery.
    • Usually hair transplant surgery is refused if there is no hair on the scalp. Body hair transplant can be an inferior possibility.
Can hair transplant surgery be done for eyebrow, moustache, eyelashes or other body areas?
    • Thinning, total or partial loss of eyebrow, eyelashes, moustache or beard or sideburns since birth or due to other causes like injury or burns can be corrected cosmetically by Hair Transplant Surgery.
At what age one can have hair transplant surgery? Can a child undergo hair transplant surgery? Can a 70 years old person undergo hair transplant surgery?
    • Age is no bar for Scarring baldness. For pattern baldness unusually hair transplant surgery is refused before 20 years and if the quality of donor hair is good even at late age hair transplant surgery can be done.
Do I have to undergo tests before hair transplant surgery?
    • Yes usually you need to undergo the following tests before hair transplant surgery:
      1. Complete blood count
      2. HbSAg (Australian Antigen)
      3. P.T & APTT
      4. Blood Sugar (Fasting and Post prandial)
      5. H.I.V.
What care do I take before hair transplant surgery? Pre operative Care Before hair transplant surgery:
    • In order for us to provide you with the highest quality medical care; the following instructions are important for you to follow:
      1. Medications: Do not take aspirin & other blood thinning agents, Betablockers (for Blood Pressure), anti-inflammatory (like Ibuprofen, etc), Tricyclic Anti depressants & MAO inhibitors, multivitamins including vitamin B, a week prior to your hair transplant surgery.
      2. Avoid alcohol for a days prior, & tea/coffee on the day of hair transplant surgery - that may increase bleeding.
      3. Don't smoke at least 24 hours prior to hair transplant surgery –that will reduce healing.
      4. The morning of your hair transplant surgery take a bath or shower and wash your hair thoroughly using regular shampoo. After shampooing, please rinse thoroughly and use a fresh clean towel to dry your hair. Do not apply sprays or gels to your hair. 5. Eat light breakfast the morning of your hair transplant surgery..
      6. Wear comfortable clothing the day of your hair transplant surgery. avoid T shirt or thermal. Wear simple shirt.
      7. Please do not bring any valuables to the clinic on hair transplant surgery day.
You may be receiving medications during the hair transplant surgery that can make you drowsy. Because of this we strongly recommend not to drive home the day of your hair transplant surgery. If you are unable to have you driven home. If you are coming from far we will arrange for lodging at a hotel near our office so that you may stay overnight.
Can I talk or meet your previous hair transplant surgery patient?
    • Yes we can arrange that on personal meeting with hair transplant surgeon or in one of our seminars.
How much will hair transplant surgery cost?
    • For the scalp area hair transplant surgery cost is $3.50 to $4.00 per follicle . The cost is different for special areas like eyebrow, moustache, and beard etc.
How do I make payment for hair transplant surgery?
    • By cash is most preferred other modes you may personally enquire.
I come from outstation can I get pick up facilities from station, or Airport?
    • Yes, on few days' prior information we can arrange that.
    Can my accommodation be arranged?
    • Yes, on few days' prior information we can arrange that.
Can hair transplant surgery be done if I am Diabetic or if I have Blood Pressure or other medical problems?
    • Medical problems under good control by medication do not stop you from undergoing the hair transplant surgery.
What are the side effects and complications of hair transplant surgery?
    • Hair transplant surgery is one of the safest procedures devised by medical science and leaves you with hardly any long-term problems. Discomfort, swelling of forehead, numbness at the back trouble you only for a while. Serious complication with competent hair transplant surgeons is unheard of.

With hair transplant surgery, you do not get the same density all over, as before but you can make it look like near normal density.
    DURING HAIR TRANSPLANT SURGERY

What Time Hair Transplant Surgery Takes?
    • Hair Transplant Surgery takes Only a day that you have to spare. Hair Transplant Surgery takes 2-8 hours usually depending upon the number of the follicles to be implanted .
Do I have to bring someone with me?
    • It is not necessary but you cannot drive back home after hair transplant surgery. You may hire a vehicle or some one should drive you back.
Will it pain at the time of hair transplant surgery and afterwards?
    • We take utter care so that you remain comfortable while numbing your skin after that the hair transplant surgery is pain free. Pain killer tablets take care of some discomfort you may have in the donor site for 2-3 days. Grafted site virtually remains pain free.
Will there be any bleeding during hair transplant surgery?
    • After all you cannot cut skin without few drops of blood shedding but it is not significant.
Will there be any effect on my mind?
    • This is one of the safest surgeries devised and it limits itself to the skin your brain remains much deep beneath and safely protected in the natural helmet of your skull.
If hair transplant surgery lasts long how shall i have my lunch?
    • We usually provide some snack hygienically packed and juice etc as well during the break hours for you.
How do you implant the hair? Do i have cuts and stitches?
    • This will reduce the possibility of micro trauma to the follicles. There are micro punctures done but there are no big cuts or stitches taken at the site of grafting.

    • You will leave the hair transplant clinic on the same day with no bandages on - but you should wear a cap for a week to protect grafted from dust, sun & heat.
    • Take medications as directed. (Avoid Aspirin for 2 weeks)
    • Sleep in the position in which you're most comfortable but sleep with the head on 2-3 pillows for a few nights.
    • Place wrapped ice pack on your forehead & eyes but not on the graft sites for 48 hours to avoid swelling. Swelling will go away in a few days of the hair transplant surgery. These days swelling is uncommon due to medications taken post operatively.
    • After 6 hours of the hair transplant surgery shampoo the graft site & donor site gently without rubbing and wash the head with shower. Blow dry or dry without rubbing the graft site until all scabs fall out.
    • If bleeding occurs apply a light & steady pressure for 20-30 minutes with a clean cloth at the site of bleeding.
    • Sutures in the donor area gets dissolved & need not be removed.
    • Avoid alcohol for 48 hours after hair transplant surgery.
    • Avoid smoking for as long as you can after hair transplant surgery.
    • No swimming in chlorinated water for 2 weeks after hair transplant surgery.
    • Rest for 1 day after hair transplant surgery.
    • Light work for a week after hair transplant surgery.
    • Heavy work, exercise or sex after 2 weeks of hair transplant surgery.
    • Visit your hair dresser for hair cut after 3 weeks & for hair styling after 6 weeks of hair transplant surgery.
    • Diet: Healthy nutritious diet with more proteins is beneficial. A diet that contains high quantities of animal fat can lead to an increase concentration of testosterone in the blood stream, increasing your risk of hair loss. High protein diet in pulses, milk, and white of egg, red meet and fish are good. Green vegetables and fruits are good source of minerals and antioxidants. A lot of water keeps your hair texture good.
    • Cold laser for 3-6 weeks if prescribed.
    • You may be receiving medications during the hair transplant surgery that can make you drowsy. Because of this we strongly recommend the not to drive home the day of your hair transplant surgery. If you are unable to have someone drive you home after your hair transplant surgery and you live near our office we can arrange to have you driven home. If you are coming from far we will arrange for lodging at a hotel near our office so that you may stay overnight.
    • Report to the hair transplant clinic or call the hair transplant surgeon if:
      • any excessive pain or excessive bleeding
      • any rise in temperature over – 100oF
      • sudden swelling of forehead or eyes
How will the result of hair transplant surgery look?
    • Advantage of follicular hair transplant surgery is that the result is not only natural looking and natural feeling but hair transplant surgery remains undetectable.
If hair transplant surgery is a day treatment will I have full-grown hair when I leave the hair transplant clinic?
    • The treatment of grafting the hair roots is over in few hour of the day and you may have short hair sticking out from the roots but it takes 8-18 months for the full grown results (average 1 year).
What time it takes to grow hair after hair transplant surgery?
    • The hair start sprouting by average 3-4 months and it takes 8-18 months for the hairs to grow in length and thickness.
What care will I have to take for the newly grown hair?
    • You don't need any special care for the newly grown hair after hair transplant surgery, at least not more than your other hair.
What if the implanted hair falls?
    • Implanted hair fall within first month of hair transplant surgery. The transplanted root form new hair in 3-4 months time. They become of combable length by 6-9 months and grow like any normal hair i.e. In cycle. So they may cyclically fall and in few weeks also start re-growth. The final result is achieved by 1 to 1 and a half year when the texture and thickness of transplanted hair becomes fully mature.
How long do I have to take rest after hair transplant surgery?
    • You may not require rest but rest of 2-3 days may be sufficient. You should avoid heavy exercise or sex, weight lifting etc. for a week or more after hair transplant surgery.
When can I go for swim?
    • 10 days after hair transplant surgery.

If you are coming from far we will arrange for lodging at a hotel near our office so that you may stay overnight.
    When can I work?
    • Usually from the day after hair transplant surgery for the light work but heavy work is avoided for 7-10 days after hair transplant surgery.
When can I take bath after hair transplant surgery?
    • Shoulder bath on the same day as hair transplant surgery and shampoo and shower by patting and without rubbing the grafted site from next day onwards.
After hair transplant surgery, When can I go to gym?
    • 2 weeks after hair transplant surgery to allow healing and consolidation of stitched tissue. Avoid weight lifting for few months if possible so that your scar does not get stretched.
After hair transplant surgery, When can I have sex?
    • 2 weeks after hair transplant surgery.
After hair transplant surgery, when can I have alcohol?
    • Avoid for a week.

Do I need to take the medication and for how long after hair transplant surgery?
    • Usually we prescribe antibiotics for a week and painkillers for 5 days after hair transplant surgery. Additionally you may take finasteride and minoxidil for thinning hair or preventing hair fall by telogen effluvium.
Do you use laser for Hair Transplant Surgery? What is Low Level Laser Therapy or Cold Laser?
